How To Kill The Flesh (Spiritually)

Living for god is a STRUGGLE!!!

Quite frankly, I don’t know anyone who is perfect at it. As long as we’re in this flesh it’s always going to be challenging that’s why it’s important to always seek the spirit. Speaking of flesh, one of my biggest struggles is being in my flesh, especially if someone’s hurt my feelings, I try not to be led by my emotions.

Let’s talk about galatians 5:19–21 for a second

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Enmity- hostility, hatred

Strife- angry or bitter disagreement over fundamental issues; conflict.

Rivalry- competition, superiority in the same field

Dissension- disagreement that leads to discord.

Divisions — separation due to disagreements producing tension and hostility.

Now I chose to single those words out because I feel like those are universal struggles and the thing that God’s people need most right now is

UNITY.

John 10:10 says that the thief or the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, so how will he do that? Well, that looks different for different people, but whatever that looks like, it’s going to resemble strife. It’s going to resemble division. It’s going to resemble all the things mentioned above, the only way to not be susceptible to that is to kill the flesh by being in the spirit.

How do we do that?

Galatians 5:16 says to walk in the spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

How do we walk in spirit?

LOVE.

According to Colossians 3:14 LOVE binds everything together.

Do you understand how powerful that is?

When you truly love, not just saying it but truly allowing yourself to love your enemies, love your neighbors, love God. then the desires of the flesh don’t weigh so heavily.

Now that’s not to say they won’t be an issue but allowing yourself to love gets you further in this life spiritually

I can go on and on about this, talking about the armor and how the fight isn’t against flesh and blood…

That’s a whole different conversation for another day.

But to some of this post, it’s easy to be in your flesh, but if we truly want to be led by the spirit we have to step outside of our flesh, love one another and know that the enemy is always working.
